Guide to Recharge Gemstone

Gemstones carry energetic/psychic capacity, and if they are full of other energies or drained, they may not give your desired effects. Hence, by cleansing and charging you deepen your connection with the gem: you set your intention, you treat it respectfully, which in many practices strengthens how it works for you. Below are the rituals for cleansing and charging each of the gems governed by the navagrahas:

Ruby

Ruby is associated with Sun and symbolizes vitality and royalty. It should be purified and energized in the name of the Sun. To purify, place the ruby in a bowl of raw cow’s milk mixed with Gangajal for 10 -15 minutes, then rinse and dry. Alternatively, a Panchamrita bath, milk with honey, ghee, etc, may more effectively cleanse the gemstone. Chant “Om Hraam Hreem Hroum Sah Suryaya Namah” 108 times while holding the stone and focus on projecting the energy of Sun into the gem. Expose the cleansed ruby to early morning sunlight for a few hours and then wear it on a Sunday morning for optimal effect.

Pearl

Pearl is associated with Moon, and brings calmness and emotional balance. Pearls are believed to be formed under the Swati nakshatra in a conch shell, when raindrops fall straight into the mouth of an oyster. They are also soft, sensitive and fragile so gentle cleansing methods should be used for it. To purify, soak the pearl in a mixture of Gangajal, milk, a teaspoon of honey, and a few Tulsi leaves for about 5-10 minutes, or just smudge it with smoke. Wipe it clean with a soft cloth, do not soak pearls too long or expose them to acids. Then, while holding the pearl, chant “Om Soma Somaya Namah” 108 times and concentrate on channeling the lunar energy into the gemstone. It can also be left under the Moonlight during a full moon to get charged. The energized pearl should be worn on a Monday, especially during the Shukla paksha.

Opal

Opal is associated with Venus and is considered a gem of love and creativity. Opal is also a soft gem, and might be sensitive to water at times. So for its purification, a quick smudge in sage or incense smoke will do it. Chant “Om Shum Shukraya Namah” 108 times while holding the Opal to invoke the blessings of Shukra. Then Keep the opal in moonlight after the ritual for a recharge, also be aware that sudden changes in temperature can also damage opals. Friday is the auspicious day to wear this gem either in the morning or evening.

Blue Sapphire

Blue Sapphire is associated with Saturn, and it should be treated very carefully due to the strong influence of Shani. A Blue Sapphire or Neelam can mitigate and balance out the malefic effects of Saturn when properly energized. For its purification, place the Blue sapphire in a Panchamrita mixture, which includes milk, gangajal, Tulsi leaves, honey, ghee, and sugar, for around 10-20 minutes. This will cleanse and ground the stone. Then, rinse it under clean water and dry with a soft cloth. After cleaning, chant “Om Sham Shanicharaya Namah” 108 times while holding it to charge the stone. While chanting the mantra visualize the disciplined energy of Shani infusing the gemstone. Then, wear the Blue sapphire on a Saturday dawn, especially during the Shukla Paksha.

Yellow Sapphire

Yellow Sapphire is associated with Jupiter and is said to enhance the wisdom and fortune of the wearer. To purify, soak the Yellow Sapphire in a bowl of water mixed with Gangajal and turmeric powder for about an hour, or in the Panchamrita mixture for 30 minutes. After soaking, rinse it gently and place the Yellow sapphire in the morning sunlight for around 1-2 hours to charge. Then, chant “Om Brim Brihaspataye Namah” 108 times while holding the gemstone. While chanting, visualize the positive and benevolent energy of Brihaspati channeling into the gem and then wear it on a Thursday.

Red Coral

Red Coral is associated with Mars, and symbolizes courage and strength. The Shuddhikaran of a Red coral is done in the Panchamrita or can also be done in the clean water. Place the Red coral in the Panchamrita mixture or in a bowl of clear water with jaggery in it. Soak the coral in it for around 10 minutes and gently wipe it clean. Hold the coral and chant “Om Kraam Kreem Kroum Sah Bhaumaya Namah” 108 times and during this process visualize the fiery, dynamic energy of Mars flowing into the stone. Placing it on the top of a quartz cluster or under the Sunlight will also charge the Gem. Then the energized Red coral can be worn on a Tuesday before sunrise.

Emerald

Emerald is associated with Mercury, and promotes intellect and communication. For its purification, the Emerald should be soaked under lukewarm water with tulsi leaves in it, or in the Panchamrita mixture. Immerse the emerald entirely in the above two things for around 15-30 minutes. Smudging the stone in smoke of burning sage will also clear away any accumulated energy and restore its natural vibrant frequency. Then, after cleansing, sit on a green mat, hold the gem in your hand and chant “Om Braam Breem Broum Sah Budhaya Namah” 108 times. Visualize the Mercurial energies passing into the gemstone, and then wear the emerald on a Wednesday morning.

Hessonite

Hessonite is associated with Rahu, and brings power, wealth, success, creativity, and material success to the wearer. For its purification, soak the Hessonite in the Panchamrita mixture for around 15-20 minutes, and after soaking, rinse with pure water and dry. Then while holding the stone in your hand, chant “Om Ram Rahave Namah” 108 times and visualize the power of Rahu being purified and imbued into the gem. Leave the gem under the sunlight for 2–3 hours or in bright moonlight on a full moon night. Then, wear it on a Saturday evening during the Shukla paksha for beneficial effects.

Cat's Eye

Cat's Eye is associated with Ketu, it enhances the intuition and insight of the wearer while simultaneously providing protection from negative energies. The cleansing rituals of this gem are similar to that of the Hessonite but the energies of Ketu should be emphasized in this case. To purify, soak the Cats Eye in a bowl of gangajal and with some rock salt in it for about 30 minutes and place it in front of the idol of Lord Ganesha. Rinse and dry it thoroughly. Then, chant “Om Kem Ketave Namah” 108 times while holding the stone and visualize the mystical and otherworldly energies of Ketu channeling into the Cat’s Eye. The stone can also be left overnight under the moonlight after chanting its mantra. And then can be worn on a Tuesday, Wednesday or on a Saturday during the Shukla paksha.
